Bhagwan Vishnu, after long years of the tapas of Garuda, manifested Himself in the cave of a mountain to fulfil the wish to Garuda and resided in the hills around Ahobilam in the midst of dense forests in nine different forms. On one of the mountains in the Nallamala hills range, around 80 miles from Srisaila Kshetra, Garuda did penance to have a glimpse of the vision of Bhagwan Narasimha who destroyed Hiranyakasipu. Brahmanda Purana says that this place was once the palace of Hiranyakasipu who was slain by Vishnu manifesting as Narasimha from a pillar to bless his staunch devotee Prahlada, the son of Hiranyakasipu. In Mahabharatha and ancient puranas like Koorma Purana, Padma Purana and Vishnu Purana, there is a mention about Ahobilam and its presiding deity Narasimha. The Eastern Ghats are likened to the great serpent Adhisesha basking in the sun with its head (or hood) at Tirumala, its middle at Ahobilam and its tail- end portion at Srisailam – all the three with famous temples on them. It is located 70 km from Nandyal and 150 km from Kurnool, the district headquarters. Ahobilam is a holy site in the Allagadda mandal of Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. There upon Lord Brahma personally brought Saligrama Narasimha Murthy to the river Krishnaveni and erected the Saligrama Murthy on the Saligrama Mountain.Out of 108 Divya Desams of Bhagwan Vishnu two are in Andhra Pradesh- Tirupathi and Ahobilam. But even before Brahma offered his worship to the Lord in Sathya Loka, the Sathya Loka, the Satya Loka was consumed in flames. Then Lord Bramha requested Jwala Narasimha to stay in Sathya Loka as Saligrama Narasimha so the Lord went to Sathya Loka as Saligrama Narasimha at the request of Lord Bramha. Later the Lord incarnated himself as ‘Narasimha’ killed the mighty demon Hiranya Kasapa and served Prahalda and ever since stayed as Jwala Narasimha on the mountain head at Vedadri in fulfillment of the inclination of Veda Purushas. According to the bid of the Lord the Veda purashas remaind in Krishnaveni as Saligrama mountain. He assured the Vedapurshas that both the prayers would be granted simultaneously. Lord told them that Krishnaveni also prayed to allow her to worship him everyday and that the granted her the boon. So saying the Lord bid them till such time to remain in the river Krishnaveni as Saligrama mountain. The Lord also assured the Vedapurushas that he would stay with them as panchamurthy only. There upon the Lord munificently granted their Prayer but said that the would do that only after killing another demon Hiranya Kasapa and saving his son prahalda. The Vedas, in human from thanked the lord for his kind gesture in saving them, Prayed to stay with them on their heads.

Lord Srimannarayana Murthy in ‘Matsyavathara’ (Fish) entered the Ocean, killed the demon Somakasura and brought back the Vedas in tact.

Lord Bramha then approached his father Lord Srimannarayana murthy and Prayed for the restoration of Vedas. “Bramhand purana” says that Somaksura a demon of Yore stole the four Vedas from Lord Bramha and hid himself in the Ocean.
